LIFE Changing HABITS
H - Hang Out With God
One hour every day. Seeking His face, not just His favors.
(Matthew 26:40) Then He returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Couldn't you men keep watch with me for one hour?" he asked Peter.
(Matthew 6:33) But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
A - Accountability With Believers
Small groups are the best place to find real accountability. Are you praying, memorizing, studying, serving, giving, witnessing, resting?
(Proverbs 27:17) As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
B - Bible Memorization
One verse a week.
(Psalm 119:11) I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
I - Involvement In Ministry
Intercessory Prayer, Witnessing, Serving, Discipleship.
(Matthew 16: 24-26) Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
T - Tithe & Offerings
Tithe to God, and the rest is between you and God.
(1 Timothy 6:17-18) Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.
(Hebrews 11:6) And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
S - Scripture Study
Daily Reading Plan.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
LIFE H.A.B.I.T.S.
One of the keys to being a true follower of Christ is developing spiritual LIFE H.A.B.I.T.S. These are foundational disciplines that will change your spiritual life, and that will help you begin to make a difference with your life. We encourage every follower of Christ to practice these spiritual H.A.B.I.T.S.
H - Hang Out With God
The first and most important step to being a follower of Christ is to Know God. This goes deeper than following a religion. It is about a real relationship with a real God. We encourage all believers to follow the example of Jesus and have a specific time, a specific place, and a specific plan for your daily time with God. You may also find it helpful to begin your day with what we call "Hang 10". Spend the first 10 minutes of your day conversing with God. Acknowledging the Lord first every day help us make Him first in our lives. Another resource to empower your relationship with God is our prayer guide. Walking through this simple yet powerful booklet will help you to be consistent and committed in your prayer life.
A - Accountability With Believers
People need to know God first of all, but God also created us to have relationships with other people. We believe that life change happens in the context of relationships. We bear each others burdens, and sharpen one another like iron sharpens iron. Through true accountability with believers that we Find Freedom, and begin to Discover Purpose. The next step to finding relationship and accountability with other believers is by being in a LIFE Group. Find out more about LIFE Groups on the GROUPS page.
B - Bible Memorization
One of the names for Jesus is The Word, so if you want to be like Christ you need to know the Word. We encourage all followers of Christ to be intentional to memorize Scripture so that it becomes part of your thought life. When Jesus was confronted by the Devil in the wilderness, Christ overcame the enemies temptations by using the Word of God. And the Bible states in Psalm 119:11, "Your Word have I hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you." We have made available a "Top 25" list of Scriptures for memory. It is our goal to commit at least one verse of Scripture to memory each week. LIFE Groups participate in Scripture memory together and encourage one another in this important spiritual discipline.
I - Involvement In Ministry
Everyone was created on purpose with a purpose. When you find freedom from your past and your problems, you are free to discover your purpose. Part of your purpose in life is to make a difference in the lives of others. If we are truly striving to be followers of Christ, we must be involved in ministry just as Jesus was involved in ministering to others. The next step to discovering your purpose and getting involved in ministry is by going through GrowthTrack. Learn more and register for GrowthTrack at www.lakeviewpeople.com/growthtrack
T - Tithe & Offerings
At Lakeview Church, we practice tithing for the support of Christ's body, the church, as God commands. We recognize that giving the tithe (10%) of our income is the Biblical standard for giving. The words of Jesus in Acts 20:35 explain the secret of giving when He said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." Jesus gave of Himself for others, and we should follow His example if we truly want to be followers of Christ. We are blessed here, and we never beg for money, and God certainly doesn't need our money, but we practice giving as an act of obedience and worship.
S - Scripture Study
The Word of God is powerful and will change your life in incredible ways. Romans 12:2 says, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." That spiritual renewal process happens as we allow the Holy Spirit to reveal Himself to us through Scripture. When we study Scripture we come to better Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose, and we are equipped to Make A Difference. Lakeview LIFE Groups walk through a Scripture reading plan together, and we recommend a simple and effective study technique called the "S.U.G.A.R." Study Method. (Summarize - Underline - Gospel - Application - Response) The YouVersion App is another helpful resource that has many Scripture Study plans available for free. As the Word of God empowers and transforms us, we are better equipped to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others.
